How to get your brand mentioned by ChatGPT
There is no submit button. ChatGPT names brands it has seen described clearly and often, and, when it searches the web, brands that appear on the pages it retrieves. You influence both.
The checklist
- Write your prompts first. List 20 questions a buyer would ask, e.g. “best accounting software for freelancers in Germany”. Ask them in ChatGPT, logged out, and note who gets named.
- Allow OAI-SearchBot and GPTBot in robots.txt. OAI-SearchBot governs inclusion in ChatGPT search results.
- State what you are in one sentence on your homepage: category, who it is for, where. Repeat it on About, LinkedIn, Crunchbase, G2 or the directories of your niche.
- Publish a comparison page that honestly compares you with the brands ChatGPT already names.
- Publish numbers: pricing, limits, test results. Engines quote specifics.
- Earn list placements. Find the “best X” articles that rank for your prompts and pitch the authors.
- Show up where people talk: Reddit threads, Quora, niche forums, YouTube reviews. Be helpful, disclose who you are.
- Collect reviews on the review platforms your category uses.
- Add Organization and Product schema so your name, logo and offers are unambiguous.
- Re-run your prompts monthly, or use a tracker for daily data. Compare trackers.
Quick test: ask ChatGPT "What is [your brand]?" If the answer is wrong or vague, fix steps 3 and 9 before anything else.
